So i was watching the chain of command the other day and it dawned upon me how much of a rough deal Jellico had for trying to do new stuff, I always thought the intention of this episode was to make Jellico look like an awful captain but he actually did a good job.
so it starts when jellico fist arrives on the Enterprises he tries to make things more in his order and way of doing things. for the first thing he tries to tell the entire ship that he wants to switch to a 4 hours shift, and there is some shit storm kicked up, especially by Riker who wonders around moaning how much effot it will take, then he wants to make the ship run more efficiently to which it is deemed that it is an attainable goal by data , he also wants troi an officer on the bridge to wear official starfleet uniform what are wrong with these things he wants to-do…..
Also Jellico’s negotiation style is brilliant a great contrast to picards style of doing things, he goes into the negotiations being arrogant and totally throwing the cardassians off balance, Also he goes into when finding out picard has been captured not reacting in trying to give in to the cardassians where as riker looks like he would have folded instantly
Anyone who follows sports wil know exactley what Jellico was doing he came into a new organization he wanted to change things maybe the training or the focus of the team in his image of how best the ship would run what is wrong with that. no he was just doing what he does best every captain has their own style it is up to the crew to adapt.
As for the episode with picard worf and crusher going to a top secret cardassian cave that turns out to be a Trap, what i dont understand is why are they sending one of the best federation captains who must be in his 50’s a woman who also must be in her late 40’s into this mission who are part of the key command crew of one of the federations top flag ships, but decide to send them here surely there could be younger stronger men and women who would be able to go in there and delete a file or computer terminal at will? why the need for such high profile old officers to do such a thing it just seems to make no sense.
The interrogation scene of this episode was rather good with the whole I CAN SEE 4 LIGHTS was pretty good stuff, also any episodes where we get a lot of cardassians are always going to be a favourite of mine.
